EatWriteLA did a little video at yesterday’s AMAZING Backyard BBQ at Freddy Smalls.  If you look closely, me, Tere and our kids are in the first few shots!!

Freddy Smalls Backyard BBQ

The folks that run Freddy Smalls are about to do two amazing things that you must know about right away!
  • Freddy Smalls is having a BARBECUE!  Yes you heard right. On Sunday, August 18th starting at 2:00p you can eat all the Tri-Tip and Maryland Blue Crab you want while whiling away the day with friends and jamming to music. Best to buy these tickets far in advance either at Freddy’s (11520 W Pico - just east of Barrington) or over the phone at (310)479-3000. Don’t miss out or otherwise you’re gonna kick yourself when you see pictures the next day of all of us who gorged ourselves on all that food! And drinks! And music!  Like Eat+Drink - Freddy Smalls is Having a BBQ - August 18th on Facebook
  • New Santa Monica Lunch locale. The Shack on Wilshire & 26th has been taken over by the same people who own Freddy Smalls and started The Counter hamburger joints. While the final concept is in the works, they’re creating a limited engagement “lunchtime pop-up” Tuesday thru Friday next week.Starting Tuesday (July 30th) you can swing by between 11:00a and 2:30p for what will arguably be the best cheesesteaks (and caesar salads, hand cut chips, and bottled coke, water and beer) you will find this far from Philly. I’ll be there. Will you?  Like Eat+Drink - Freddy Smalls is Having a BBQ - August 18th on Facebook

Run.  Don’t walk.

Heather

The Eat+Drink Supper Club Kick-off with Charlie Parker from Freddy Smalls

If you’ve kept up with my posts on Eat+Drink, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, I’m sort of obsessed with Freddy Smalls and Charlie Parker in particular.

On March 24th, you’ll understand why.

Charlie was recently listed on Zagat’s 30 Under 30 list of hot up-and-coming chefs and is kicking off the Eat+Drink Supper Club with a special Sunday edition.  On Sunday March 24th, we’ll start at 4:00p and I have 24 seats available.  $100 per person includes EVERYTHING, all you have to do is bring your hungry, thirsty self.  Charlie’s menu for our Sunday afternoon of food and drink is delish. Email me to attend!

Menu:

Smoked Trout Deviled Eggs

Chicken Liver Mousse on Country Toast

Zagat’s 30 Under 30: LA’s Hottest Up-and-Comers of 2013

One of my favorite chefs, Charlie Parker of Freddy Smalls, was recognized by Zagat’s as one of Los Angeles’ top chefs to keep an eye on in 2013.  You know we’re on to something when I highlighted Charlie and Freddy Smalls months ago.  Keep an eye on Charlie and Eat+Drink!!

Freddy Smalls

Freddy Smalls is by far my favorite new place to eat and drink so it’s only appropriate that the first post at Eat+Drink is completely and utterly dedicated to Freddy Smalls. There have been many write-ups in the newspaper and you can check them out here and here but if you want to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth, well read on.

Freddy Smalls was started by Jeff Weinstein, founder of hamburger haven The Counter.  Although I’ve met Jeff, I really love his wife Kelly.  Sorry Jeff.  Kelly lights up a room and knows everything about everyone.  Love.

Freddy Smalls is a bar with really good food.  They aren’t a restaurant, they’re a bar.  Don’t ask for coffee, they don’t have any.  Nor an espresso machine.  Go to Coffee Bean for that.  At Freddy Smalls you’re going to eat, drink and talk loud.

There isn’t a thing on the menu I don’t like but my faves are the warm olives, the deviled eggs, the buratta, chicken panzanella and to top it off for dessert, the Namalaka.  Order this and you will be happy.

Ah but you also have to drink at Freddy Smalls.  This bar is not for teatotalers.  My drink of choice is the Five Star Sidecar in a lowball - but that’s just because I don’t like holding those small martini glasses and then getting my drink all over my hand.  But that’s me.  You can order a million other drinks that they have or they’ll make something just for you.

Freddy Smalls is my jam.  I hope it becomes yours too.
